Spackling is like “a work of art.” — according to the 4-year-old, construction apprentice.

Although impromptu, the logic checks out. Leonardo da Vinci used multiple thin layers of glaze to build up his masterpieces, and the same rule applies to spackling drywall!

Whether repairing a hole or spackling new drywall, avoid single, thick, lumpy layers of spackle/mud. Thick spackle shrinks, cracks, and takes forever to dry. Multiple thin coats mean less sanding, zero cracking, and a more professional finish.
